Dr. Annie Bernatchez
Sociologist. Research Strategist. Interdisciplinary Consultant.
Dr. Annie Bernatchez is a sociologist, researcher, educator, and consultant whose work sits at the intersection of qualitative methods, human experience, and applied social science. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Ottawa and a Master of Public Health from the University of Montreal, and has served as a part-time professor at the University of Ottawa's School of Sociological and Anthropological Studies since 2020. Her doctoral research examined social movements and activism, with a focus on critical animal studies.
Her consulting practice is defined by intellectual rigour, practical clarity, and genuine care for the people and organizations she works with. Whether leading a research project, facilitating a workshop, or guiding an individual through a professional transition, Dr. Bernatchez approaches every mandate with curiosity and intention.
She has worked with academic institutions, government institutions, nonprofits, and small businesses, both in Canada and internationally, providing research, strategy, and capacity-building support across sectors.
Dr. Bernatchez is available for engagements in English and French. All services are offered fully remotely, with in-person availability upon request.

Our People
Ayushee Romooah
Hi! My name is Ayushee Romooah, and I am currently a research intern working with Professor Bernatchez. I recently completed my bachelor's degree in Political Science at the University of Ottawa, where I became especially interested in international relations, global affairs, and questions surrounding culture, identity, and society.
During my internship, I have been able to explore these interests through research projects, such as my current research, which looks at queer identities, relationships, and gender expression in pre-colonial South Asian societies. I have really enjoyed learning more about the research process and seeing how academic work can be made accessible and useful beyond the university setting.
I am especially interested in international relations, diplomacy, human rights, and social and cultural issues. I am eager to shed light on diverse communities and perspectives that have historically been underrepresented in academic and public discussions.
Outside of research, I enjoy yoga, painting, going to the park, spending time outdoors, and trying new things with friends and family.
Grâce-Emmanuelle Akatchi
Hello! My name is Grâce-Emmanuelle Akatchi and I am currently a research intern. I recently completed my bachelor's degree in health sciences with a minor in psychology, and I am in the process of applying to master's programs in psychology. Alongside my studies, I work as a supervised behavioural therapist at a clinic that supports children with autism spectrum disorder.
I am deeply curious about research and eager to understand how scientific inquiry contributes to improving mental health outcomes. I am grateful to Dr. Bernatchez, who has generously taken me under her wing as I explore the field of research through our current project. My main interests include mental health, autism, and child development.
In my spare time, I enjoy singing, listening to music, and playing tennis.
Research Internships & Mentorship
Bernatchez & Company occasionally hosts emerging researchers and interdisciplinary thinkers for applied learning experiences rooted in real research and strategy work.
Interns contribute to active projects while developing practical skills in research design, qualitative methods, strategy, communication, and collaborative problem-solving.
Internships are remote and flexible, with mentorship provided throughout the experience.
